PRESENTERS
The Taylor County Child Welfare Board is honored to sponsor Robin Karr-Morse to Abilene.
Robin is the co-author of Ghosts from the Nursery: Tracing the Roots of Violence.  The book
focuses on understanding the origin of violent behavior starting in the cradle.

Ms. Karr-Morse earned her M.ED. In Counseling from Lewis and Clark College in Portland
Oregon in 1976.  She is currently a consultant to county and state governments nationwide.  She
continues her work to shift the focus of community systems of social and mental health practices
from fixing broken kids to building healthy ones as Executive Director of the Parenting Institute.

Ms. Karr-Morse presents startling evidence that points out that violent behavior is born and
cultivated as early as the earliest months of life.  It is well known that the foundations for trust,
empathy, conscience and lifelong learning are laid down in the infancy.  It is also when a
predisposition towards violent behavior is “hardwired” into the brain, strongly influenced by
environment and neurobiological make up. We may never know why children kill children, but
Robin presents well-developed ideas as to how we can work together to prevent this alarming
trend from continuing into the future.
Dr. Lehmann is a current associate professor with the School of Social Work at UT Arlington.  He obtained his PH.D. Degree
in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1995.

Dr. Lehmann has done numerous presentations throughout the U.S. and Canada on family violence issues. He has an
interest in relationship violence and his practice and research has centered partly on the effects of violence exposure to
children and offending fathers.

Dr. Lehmann has also trained with child welfare workers in Texas and Oklahoma developing safety and strengths based
approaches with families.

Dr. Lehmann launched the first Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Certificate Program in the United States in 2006, through UT
Arlington School of Social Work Continuing Education Department.

Dr. Lehmann has co-authored “A Generalist-Eclectic Approach to Direct Practice” (editions 1 and 2), “Strengths Based
Batterer Intervention: A New Paradigm in Ending Domestic Violence,” School-Based Anti-Violence Program.”

Dr. Lehmann will present a four hour presentation on “The Impact on Children who Witness Family Violence:  Possible
Treatment Implications.”  This is “must have” information for anyone working with domestic violence and children.

Ms. Fisher experienced a wonderfully successful military career, but due to the abuse she
encountered as a child, her personal and relationship choices were affected in a very
negative way.  Ms. Fisher will take you though her experiences as a child, young adult and
into adulthood where she is now.  She will explain to you how little it takes to affect a child’s
